Addressing The Composites Skills Gap

Addressing The Composites Skills Gap
Renewable Advice
With the rapid growth in the number of installed wind turbines, there has been a corresponding growth in the demand for technicians to operate and maintain them. In particular, there is a shortage of skilled composite technicians in the repair sector. To address this, Renewable Advice Ltd have established a training arm of their company: Renewable Turbine Training, delivering industry agreed standards in blade repair. The first of the Blade Repair and Inspection (BRAI) courses will be running from its base in Winchester. The agreed syllabus is being accredited by the Renewable Training Network (RTN) who have worked with trainers, manufacturers and site operators. The Renewable Turbine Training, Blade Repair and Inspection course will cover the key areas of inspection and repair, including:- • Five main areas of fault category classed one to five • The four levels of competency: Awareness, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced • Both theoretical and practical blade repair techniques. • Intermediate to Advanced inspection courses will include NDT at a later stage. Paul Murphy, Training Development Manager of Renewable Turbine Training said; “We are very excited about the new course and pleased to be one of the first companies to facilitate it. It is good to see so many companies come together to agree a national standard and we are looking forward to working with the Renewable Training Network in delivering this course.”
