GWA Supplies has been successful in winning significant orders in the past 12 months from Sheringham Shoal and Robin Rigg wind farms; as they have planned for and created their opening stock position for spares on these sites. However, it is still the urgent reactive activity that grabs the attention of the site when it happens. This was the case recently at Robin Rigg when Kevin Donovan at GWA Supplies got the call on a Thursday that a turbine was down due to a faulty pressure relief valve. If a spare part was not available to go out with the service vessel that was leaving the next morning at 7:30, the weather window for the repair would be missed. Consequently, the turbine would be down for 5 days, at a significant cost of lost production. Kevin was able to source the part and have it shipped from continental Europe to the location for 6:30am on Friday morning – in time to be loaded onto the service vessel.
